Pelagia – Coastal Study I
Pelagia – Coastal Study I is a one-of-a-kind handbuilt ceramic vessel inspired by the movement of water, shifting tides, and organic coastal forms. Sculpted with dramatic folded edges and an asymmetrical silhouette, the piece changes character from every angle — at once delicate, architectural, and fluid.
Layered applications of White Opal glaze create a luminous foundation, while Sapphire Blue and Tourmaline bloom across the surface in soft cellular patterns reminiscent of sea foam, tide pools, and mineral-washed shoreline textures. The glossy finish enhances the depth of the glaze movement, allowing light to travel across the folds and curves throughout the day.
This vessel was created as a sculptural study rather than a perfectly controlled form, embracing the quiet unpredictability of clay and kiln. A subtle kiln-fired fracture remains visible within the piece and has been intentionally preserved as part of its final story — a reflection of process, tension, and transformation. Stable and visually striking, the piece is best suited for decorative display as an art object or statement vessel.
Both refined and organic, Pelagia – Coastal Study I embodies the DMV & Co. philosophy of where art meets everyday living.
