Bathyal Bloom – Coastal Study I
One-of-a-Kind Sculptural Ceramic Vessel
DMV & Co.
Bathyal Bloom – Coastal Study I explores the meeting of sea, form, and movement. Inspired by the depth of the ocean’s bathyal zone, this sculptural vessel features a dramatic cobalt interior that rises through a fractured, petal-like opening. The softly speckled exterior evokes salt spray, weathered shoreline stone, and distant coastal horizons.
Hand-formed in stoneware clay, the vessel embraces organic asymmetry and the quiet unpredictability of the firing process. The ruffled rim creates shifting silhouettes from every angle, while the deep blue interior draws the eye inward like a hidden tidal pool.
Equally suited as a standalone art object or styled with dried botanicals, Bathyal Bloom is a one-of-a-kind studio piece that blurs the line between functional vessel and sculpture.

Artist Notes
No molds, templates, or patterns were used in creating this piece. The folded rim, flowing silhouette, and glaze movement emerged through an intuitive process of shaping, layering, and firing, making this vessel impossible to reproduce exactly.
